Backwater   

Stretch of water that has become by passed from main flow of a stream, although still joined to it.

Backwaters are the result of the formation of a land parallel to the main land due to the wave action.

Bar

 An offshore deposit of mud, sand and shingle in form of ridge running roughly parallel to the coastline. Due to the offshore drift, current and wave processes, these deposits advances towards the   shore, blocking the bays and river mouth.

Coastal Engineering Structures

Coastal Engineering structures are constructions along the coast for different purposes.

Bouy  :  A object floating above water with an anchor at the bottom.

Harbour : Deep water along the shore fr anchoring a ship

Mooring : Post on a quay or deck for a ship's ropes or cables

Port : Opening in the side of a hip for loading

Islands

A piece of land entirely surrounded by water . Small islands are called islets.

Lagoon

A shallow stretch of water which is partly or completely separated from the sea , a narrow strip of land .

Low tide and high tide line

Low tide line is the seaward limit to which the waves recede during low tide . High tide line is the land ward limit to which the waves reach when sea advances during high tide
